Concerns over no improvements in Palfrey area

The decision-making process regarding the proposed developments are detailed in the report on the first page of the play area consultation and no sites in this locality were identified. Palfrey play area itself was improved in 2021 using £25,000 of grant funding and was not, therefore, identified for improvement by the council at this time.

Play improvements have been identified as a priority through local consultation as pat of the One Palfrey Big Local programme. Over the last 18 months draft designs have been drawn up for improvement works to three sites, namely: Bescot Crescent play area, Camden Street play area and Palfrey Park.

The proposals include:

Bescot Crescent - improvements include the addition of new play equipment and safety surfacing and refurbishing the existing fencing. Additional bin and benches will be added to the site, the footpath network extended, and tree and shrub planting carried out.

Camden Street - improvements to the play area include new play equipment and safety surfacing and refurbishing the existing fencing. Access to the sports arena will be enhanced and the surfacing improved, with new fencing sections and line marking for different sports. Additional bin and benches will be added to the site and some landscaping of the existing vegetation / mounds carried out to make better use of the space.

Palfrey Park - a new £20k Trim Trail has recently been installed as the first phase of work under the One Palfrey Big local project. Future proposals for Palfrey Park include extension of the play area to incorporate additional items of equipment, new site furniture including bins, benches and signage and soft landscaping including new tree and bulb planting.
